Earlier this week, Rapid KL announced that renewals of its My50 monthly transport pass would be suspended for over a month for a system upgrade. However, confusion arose regarding the announcement, prompting the operator to clarify that commuters can still renew their passes during the upgrade period.
Previously, the Prasarana-run rail operator stated that from 23 December 2024 until 31 January 2025, the renewal process for the My50 pass will be temporarily unavailable at all rail, BRT, and bus hub service counters. With its new FAQ, it now says that pass renewals can still be done at the counter during this period, but you can only do so once your current pass has expired.
This seems to be the only change that will affect users; normally, Rapid KL allows commuters to renew their monthly pass up to seven days earlier than the expiration date, with the remaining balance being carried forward to the next pass. For those who want to purchase the pass for the first time, you can still do so during the upgrading period.
The operator has remained tight-lipped on what upgrades are being implemented exactly, but it has assured the public that the price of the pass will not be changed. On an unrelated note, you can read here on how to set a later activation date for My50 in case you want to plan ahead.
