Yesterday, Rapid KL operator Prasarana announced that renewals for the My50 monthly pass will be unavailable for over a month, from 23 December 2024 to 31 January 2025. This is apparently due to a system upgrade that will be taking place for its sales system in order to handle a growing number of users more effectively.
During this period, you won’t be able to renew My50, meaning that if you opt to renew an expired pass on 22 December, you’ll be left with having to pay the fare for each ride you take for nearly two weeks in January. However, there’s a solution that might work for you, provided that you’re in a specific situation.
According to Rapid KL’s customer service, you can actually set the activation date of the My50 pass to a later date after purchasing it. For example, you could buy it on 22 December but have it set to activate only on 1 January. This would be advantageous if you might not be needing the pass as much during the upcoming holiday season and would like to prioritise it for January during the downtime.
To do this, you just need to inform the counter staff that you wish to set the activation date to a later date when you purchase the renewal. Take note, however, that this method is only allowed if your current 30-day pass has already expired.
For those who still have an active My50 pass by 22 December, you can still opt to renew it. Rapid KL allows users to renew their pass up to seven days earlier and the balance of days from the existing pass will be carried forward. For example, if you renew it five days before it’s expiring, you’re not losing those five days for the next pass, but rather, the new pass gets an extra five days starting from the day you purchase it.
