The AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 with the Radeon 8060S Strix Halo CPU has appeared on the online repository, Geekbench. On top of that, the Strix Halo CPU is expected to appear in ASUS’ refreshed Rog Flow Z13 laptop.
Specifically, the Max+ 395 is expected to have 16 Zen5 CPU cores, and 32 threads via SMT. As mentioned at the beginning of this report, it also comes with integrated graphics cores in the form of the Radeon 8060S. The iGPU features 40 Compute Units and are based on the RDNA3.5 architecture, which is the same as the Radeon 890M found in AMD’s Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 mobile processor.
Other details indicate that the Strix Halo CPU will have a base frequency of 3GHz and a boost clock of 4GHz or more specifically, 3,939MHz. On Geekbench, the processors scores 2,894 points on single-core performance, and 20,708 points on the multi-core test.
The ROG Flow Z13 isn’t anything new. First introduced back in 2022, the 2-in-1 features a 13-inch display first featured an Intel Core i7-12900H and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti, while the next iteration offered a beefier 13900H and RTX 4060.
Asus’ decision to go with the Strix Halo Ryzen Max+ 395 feels rather self-explanatory. Packing a CPU and dedicated graphics into a compact 13-inch or 14-inch form factor may be an engineering feat in itself but that also means weight is likely to become the trade-off for all that power. AMD has proven itself with its report card of multiple APUs, the most recent and prime example being the Ryzen Z1 Extreme SoC that started out as a dare by Asus and first used in the latter’s ROG Ally and later, the Ally X.
The AMD Ryzen Max+ 395 is expected to be announced at CES 2025 next year.
