Telekom Malaysia (TM) has unveiled its own GPU-as-a-Service (GPUaaS) initiative, with the aim to strengthen the nation’s AI infrastructure and accelerate digital transformation. Announced yesterday following the launch of the National Artificial Intelligence Office (NAIO), the telco revealed that the service is the first of its kind to be entirely hosted within the country, ensuring data sovereignty and security.
Powered by NVIDIA GPU technology, TM’s GPUaaS operates from Uptime Tier-III certified data centres, delivering low-latency, high-performance AI computing. This scalable and on-demand solution eliminates the need for costly infrastructure investments, enabling businesses and government sectors to adopt AI technologies efficiently. TM’s GPUaaS is backed by its fibre optic network and edge computing facilities, and supports applications such as AI-driven public services, healthcare diagnostics, autonomous vehicle systems as well as immersive media creation.
TM Group CEO Amar Huzaimi Md Deris highlighted the modular and scalable design of GPUaaS, noting its potential to transform industries and advance Malaysia’s AI aspirations. He also revealed that the company has already secured an international customer for this service, but did not provide further details.
Additionally, the telco said its data centres hosting GPUaaS are LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified green buildings, aligning with Malaysia’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Beyond GPUaaS, these centres are also open to hosting other GPU providers.
It’s worth noting that Maxis also announced plans in August this year to launch its own GPUaaS offering. Unlike TM, however, the green telco’s service is part of a collaboration with Singtel, combining its cloud and connectivity solutions with those of the Singapore-based company.
