Huawei has announced that it will be bringing its latest foldable marvel, the Mate X6, to the Malaysian market next week. The smartphone is the sixth generation book-style foldable device from the brand, so the company has had a while to refine the design — it might not look all that different from its predecessor, but it does bring some welcome, albeit subtle, improvements.
The Mate X6 has two bigger displays while actually being thinner and nominally lighter than the Mate X5. For the main inner screen, it uses a 7.93-inch 2440×2240 LTPO OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 1,800 nits. On the other side, the outer display gets a 6.45-inch 1080p LTPO OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, a peak brightness of 2,500 nits, and Kunlun Glass 2 for protection — the phone also comes with an IPX8 rating for water resistance.
Measuring at only 4.6mm when unfolded, the phone is shockingly thin despite its size, with it being significantly thinner than an iPhone. Even in its folded form, it’s just barely any thicker than a regular candy bar smartphone. As for its weight, it’s heavier than most large phones, but only by a marginal amount; for comparison, it only weighs 12g more than an iPhone 16 Pro Max.
The issue of creases in the middle of the display is obviously still at play, as that sore thumb is probably not going away anytime soon. However, the crease on Mate X6 is barely noticeable unless you’re looking at it from an angle, but make no mistake, you’ll still feel it when swiping.
For photography, the foldable comes with a giant camera bump on the back containing a 50MP main camera with OIS and an adjustable aperture, a 48MP telephoto lens with OIS and 4x optical zoom, and a 40MP ultra-wide lens that doubles as a macro lens. For selfies, it features an 8MP sensor on both the inner and outer screens.
As always, the company does not disclose the chipset running inside the phone, but it has been reported that the foldable uses the Kirin 9020 processor. This is paired with a slightly larger 5,110mAh battery with support for 60W wired and 50W wireless charging.
The Mate X6 will be launching in Malaysia alongside the nova 13 series on 18 December. Stay tuned to find out the price and availability.
