Warhammer 40K fans, rejoice. Nearly two years since its announcement, actor Henry Cavill has revealed that his series adaptation of the fantasy series has been given the nod by Amazon.
Cavill took to Instagram to announce the news, stating that he and his team have been working closely alongside folks within Games Workshop, the owner of the Warhammer franchise.
“My incredible team and I, alongside the brilliant minds at Games Workshop, have been working away in concept rooms, breaking down approaches to the enormity and magnificence of the Warhammer world. Together, we’ve been sifting through the plethora of incredible characters and poring over old tomes and texts. Our combined efforts have led us to a fantastic place to start our Universe, which has been agreed upon by those up on high at both Amazon and Games Workshop. That starting place shall, for now, remain a secret. Watch this space, though—more to come in time!”
Cavill’s deal with Amazon reportedly also includes associated merchandising rights for any film or television show produced by the multinational company. It should be noted that, again, the potential series is still in the early stages of development. As such, we shouldn’t be expecting anything from Amazon for a while. It’s a gamble for the company but after the success of its Fallout Series, it’s clear that it is hoping for a second windfall with the Grimdark universe.
It is no secret that Cavill is a massive fan of the Warhammer 40K lore. His love for the series is nothing short of legendary and he has said that he plays and maintains a Custodes army. Cavill has also expressed his desire to have an acting role in the series although who he would play is still up in the air.
