Maxis has introduced another price hike to its multi-country roaming passes, the second increase this year. Back in January, the telco bumped the price of its 30-day multi-country data pass from RM99 to RM119 and introduced a 15-day pass for RM89.
The carrier is increasing the cost of the 30-day pass by a whopping RM30, meaning it is now priced at RM149, while the 15-day pass is now offered at RM99, a RM10 price hike. However, with this bump, the data pass expands its coverage from 75 countries to 103 countries.
For its short-term roaming passes, the company is not changing the price, but the coverage has been significantly reduced. Previously, it offered 3-day and 7-day ASEAN Plus passes priced at RM39 and RM49 respectively, covering Brunei, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Laos, Macau, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Now, these passes only cover ASEAN countries, removing coverage of China, Macau, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. To get roaming in these countries without buying the multi-country pass, you will need to opt for the new 7-day APAC data pass, which costs RM69 and can be used in 27 countries in the Asia-Pacific region. Keep in mind, of course, that while all these passes are advertised as “unlimited”, they actually have a Fair Usage Policy (FUP) limit of only 2GB/day.
