Apple is supposedly investigating the possibility of releasing new Macbooks and Mac machines with cellular or mobile connectivity. According to a report by Bloomberg, the fruit company plans on unveiling such devices with its in-house modem sometime next year.
To be clear, the report makes it clear that Apple will release new products and devices using its in-house modem starting with low-end iPads next year, with Pro versions of the iPhone and iPad with the same modem released the following year, along with future Macbooks and Macs at the time.
The latter two are interesting, as it would be the first time for such an application to be done to the Apple Macbooks and Macs. The goal is simple: by providing a mobile connectivity solution, users won’t have to unnecessarily worry about not having access Wi-Fi to get online. Assuming, of course, that the area in which the user resides has good mobile connectivity and strength.
Another benefit to using its own modem is size reduction: Apple is reportedly able to create a smartphone that’s approximately 2mm thinner than the iPhone 16 Pro, and still have room for the battery, display, and camera system. For that matter, this advancement in modem technology could be used in the brand’s first foldable, should it ever becomes reality.
