Reddit has launched a new search tool powered by AI called Reddit Answers. The tool leverages on the fact that many internet users use this platform to crowdsource answers to very specific questions, and this AI-based tool is aimed at making that process easier.
Basically, you just input any question into Reddit Answers as you would with any search engine and it will give you a response based on real conversations and communities across the site. The curated summaries will contain links to its sources so that you can do further research on it yourself or even ask follow-up questions from relevant users.
Reddit says that Answers is part of its long-term vision to improve the search experience on its website. Back in February, the company reportedly made a US$60 million (~RM265 million) deal with Google for the latter to use Reddit’s content to train AI models. With this partnership, Reddit was also given access to Google’s Vertex AI, which supposedly helps companies improve search results.
The company is intially having a limited rollout for Reddit Answers, with the feature currently only available to select users in the US. It is limited to English for now, but the platform plans to expand the tool to other languages and locations in the future.
