Apple and Sony are collaborating to bring PlayStation VR2 (PSVR2) Sense controller compatibility to the former’s Vision Pro headset, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. Initially slated for release “weeks ago”, the rollout apparently has been delayed as the companies address challenges, including the latter’s current practice of bundling the controllers exclusively with its VR headsets.
Gurman says Sony has been working on this feature for months, while Apple has reached out to third-party developers to encourage the adoption of the VR controllers for its headset. This development could improve the Vision Pro’s reputation for gaming. Gurman adds that Apple is reportedly considering selling the controllers separately once the partnership is finalised.
Beyond gaming, the iPhone maker envisions the PSVR2 controllers playing a broader role in navigating visionOS and enabling more precise controls in creative apps like Final Cut Pro and Adobe Photoshop. Currently, the Vision Pro supports standard Bluetooth controllers, but these lack the precision and functionality offered by Sony’s VR controllers.
This partnership signals Apple’s intent to expand the Vision Pro’s capabilities, potentially elevating its use cases in both gaming and professional environments. While delays persist, Gurman suggests the project is unlikely to be abandoned, with an announcement expected in the near future.
