NTT Data, the Japanese IT company, has announced that it will build another datacentre campus in the state of Johor. The new factory will be built on a 68.5-acre plot of land, which it purchased.
The site is expected to be one of the largest datacentre campus in the APAC region, comprising six buildings with a combined IT load capacity of approximately 290 megawatts (MW). The first building, which is expected to have an initial capacity of 48MW, is expected to be ready by April 2027. By comparison, the company’s other six facilities, all of which are located in Cyberjaya, only have a combined IT output of 20MW.
“With the APAC region emerging as one of the fastest growing and most influential markets for IT and data centers, our strategic land acquisition and development in Malaysia underscores our commitment to further expansion in the region,” Doug Adams, CEO and President, Global Data Centers, NTT Data, said. “Johor Bahru is an increasingly important cross-border economic zone due to its proximity to Singapore.”
NTT Data isn’t the only company that’s setting up roots in Johor. Back in December last year, Jen-Hsun Huang, CEO of NVIDIA, announced that it plans on building AI infrastructure in collaboration with YTL Power, also within the state of Johor, and should have been set up by the middle of this year.
