Great Wall Motor (GWM) has unveiled its Wey 80 MPV and Tank 500 SUV at the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS) 2024, which will open to the public tomorrow on 5 December until 11 December 2024. Both models, showcasing advanced hybrid powertrains, are confirmed for launch in Malaysia.
The Wey 80 MPV boasts a commanding presence with dimensions of 5,045 mm (length), 1,960 mm (width), and 1,900 mm (height), supported by a generous 3,085 mm wheelbase. Powered by GWM’s Hi4 plug-in hybrid system, it pairs a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine (154 hp) with dual electric motors, producing a combined output of 480 hp (487 PS) and 762 Nm of torque. A 37.96 kWh lithium battery allows a pure electric range of up to 140 km (CLTC).
Inside, the MPV prioritises comfort and flexibility with innovative seating arrangements. A shared rail system provides up to 1,166 mm of legroom for second-row passengers, while the third-row split butterfly seats can be configured to optimise space for passengers or luggage. Luxury features include a 20-speaker, 1,600-watt Harman Kardon surround sound system, a 12.5-litre fridge capable of cooling beverages from 0-50°C, and a dedicated air fragrance system offering three themed scents.
The Tank 500 is a robust seven-seater body-on-frame SUV measuring 4,928 mm (length), 1,934 mm (width), and 1,905 mm (height) with a 2,850 mm wheelbase. It features a parallel hybrid system comprising a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine (244 PS, 380 Nm) and a 106 PS electric motor, delivering a combined 350 PS and 616 Nm of torque through a nine-speed automatic transmission.
In China, additional powertrain options include a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 mild hybrid and a Hi4-T plug-in hybrid variant, with outputs of up to 408 PS and 750 Nm. The latter achieves a WLTP-rated range of 110 km and fuel efficiency of 2.06 litres per 100 km.
The interior of the Tank 500 features Nappa leather seats, a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, a 14.6-inch infotainment screen, and premium amenities like a panoramic sunroof and triple-zone climate control. Practicality is enhanced by power-folding third-row seats and advanced safety systems, including adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, and blind spot monitoring.
The SUV also features off-road capabilities such as electronic locking differentials, a mechanical centre differential, and 11 drive modes. Additionally, it can handle gradients up to 36.9 degrees, offers a “tank turn” feature, and supports water wading depth detection.
GWM has yet to reveal local pricing details for the Wey 80 and Tank 500. However, both models are expected to arrive in Malaysia in 2025, with the possibility of additional specifications and variants likely to be announced closer to their launch.
