A new rumour has emerged that AMD is getting ready to announce a Radeon RX 8800 XT graphics card, one of its first RDNA4-powered GPUs. Performance-wise, it could offer ray-tracing and raster performance on par with NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 4080.
There’s no indication as to what sort of specs are underneath the hood, but the source of the rumour, zhangzhonghao via the Chinese tech forum, Chiphell, said that the 8800 XT could be a Navi 48-based model and would offer 45% higher ray-tracing performance than the AMD’s current king-of-the-hill, the Radeon RX 7900 XTX.
It’s not just ray-tracing performance either. Another rumour suggests that the 8800 XT will be able to pull off those performance uplifts while consuming 25% less power than the 7900 XTX, which is approximately 270W. On that note, Seasonic’s wattage calculator lists the card down, suggesting that the card will run on a 220W TDP and require the standard dual 8-pin PCIe power connectors.
At this time, there’s no way to verify the accuracy of this event, especially since it’s a lot lower in power consumption than the rough estimate suggested by the rumours.
Moving on, the leak also suggests that the 8800 XT is expected to enter mass production this month, meaning that, if the card is indeed real, it could hit the market by late January next year. Fingers crossed, then.
