Huawei just dropped a teaser over its official X account, announcing that it will be hosting a “flagship product launch” in the city of Dubai, UAE. The exact date of this event is scheduled for 12 December 2024, less than a fortnight from now.
Beyond that, the teaser provides no further hints at what is to launch but as always, there is speculation. In this case, the golden ring at the bottom of the teaser suggests that the upcoming launch in Dubai is for the global launch of the Mate X6 and Mate 70. As a quick primer, both phones officially launched a few days earlier.

The Mate X6 is the brand’s foldable phone and sports a 7.93-inch LTPO OLED panel when unfolded, which has a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 1,800 nits, measuring a thickness of only 4.6mm. In its folded state, it offers a 6.45-inch 1080p LTPO OLED cover screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 2,500 nits. For protection, the cover display is equipped with Kunlun Glass 2 while the phone itself has an IPX8 rating for water resistance.
The Mate 70 serves as the plus-sized variants of Huawei’s earlier launched Pura 70 Series, which itself was a rebranding of the older P Series flagships. Specs-wise, it features a 6.7-inch FHD+ OLED screen with 2688 × 1216 pixels resolution, and a refresh rate of 120Hz. It also has a 13MP front camera, IP68/69 protection, an under-screen fingerprint scanner, NFC, and satellite communication features.
On that note, the Dubai launch could also be when Huawei plans on properly rolling out its new HarmonyOS NEXT operation system, which it has touted as being completely free and independent from the existing Android platform. The new OS is expected to present itself with a refresh UI and a broad list of new features, including lockscreen, customisation options, control centre, more streamlined animations and above all, a new system-level AI based on the Pangu LLM.
