Perodua has announced that it will showcase its new Electric Motion Online (EMO) EV concept during the KL International Mobility Show 2024 event that’s happening later this week. Known as the EMO-II, this prototype will feature an all-new design, unlike the 2021 Myvi-based emo-1 model that was previewed back in May.
Based on the teaser video shared on Perodua’s official YouTube and Facebook pages, the EMO-II EV will bear a resemblance to the miniature prototype showcased during last year’s Malaysia Autoshow. From what can be seen, the updated concept would sport an even more sportier design, along with a full-width light bar and an illuminated Perodua logo in front.
Specifications for the EMO-II have yet to be revealed. For reference, the emo-1 prototype was revealed to be powered by a three-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor which delivers 68PS and 220 Nm of torque, allowing it to achieve zero to 100km/h in about seven to nine seconds. Powering the EV is a 55.7kWh lithium-ion battery, which offers 350km of range and supports 11kW AC as well as 50kW DC charging.
Perodua previously revealed that its first ever EV will launch sometime in 2025, and is expected to be priced below RM100,000. Whether or not it will be based on the EMO-II’s design or specifications remains to be determined.
On a related note, Perodua signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Petronas and Gentari last week. This will involve the latter establishing charging facilities at the automaker’s service centres to support customers in transitioning to fully electric vehicles.
