You likely know DJI as a brand for its drones, as well as the occasional action cam. But if you were looking for wireless mics, the brand has things to offer from its catalogue as well. New to the list though is the Mic Mini, which has also been made available for the local market. Though it’s worth mentioning that the permutations in which you can buy them is a bit weird.
Before we get to that, the basic DJI Mic Mini setup consists of a single receiver and up to two mics, and is used in the same way as just about any other product in the category. Beyond that, it has an auto clipping prevention feature that lowers volume when it detects audio input that’s too high. This actually works by recording a duplicate track, but at 6 dB lower.
On that note, there’s also a dial on the receiver for quick adjustment of gain, in five levels. DJI also says that the Mic mini has it4s own anti-interference tech to allow stable transmission of up to 400 meters in busy electronic environments. Each DJI Mic Mini transmitter is rated with an operating time of 11.5 hours, or 10.5 if you have noise cancelling turned on. The charging case can provide up to 48 additional hours of use, which is pretty impressive.
But this is where things get a bit weird. You can just buy a single DJI Mic Mini transmitter and receiver combo for RM339 locally, or you can buy the full set of two transmitters, a receiver plus the charging case for RM699. On their own, the charging case has an asking price of RM239, and each transmitter will cost RM199. Though it does beg the question of what the charging method is like without the case, if anyone chooses to go the single transmitter and receiver route.
