Huawei has officially unveiled its new generation of flagship smartphones, including its top-of-the-line foldable, the Mate X6. It comes with bigger displays, a thinner body, an improved camera setup, a nominally larger battery capacity, and the brand’s new HarmonyOS NEXT operating system, which is touted as being completely independent of existing platforms such as Android.
For the display, the Mate X6 sports a 7.93-inch LTPO OLED panel when unfolded, which has a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 1,800 nits, measuring a thickness of only 4.6mm. In its folded state, it offers a 6.45-inch 1080p LTPO OLED cover screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 2,500 nits. For protection, the cover display is equipped with Kunlun Glass 2 while the phone itself has an IPX8 rating for water resistance.
On the optics side, it features an upgraded 50MP main camera with OIS and a variable aperture alongside a 48MP telephoto lens with OIS and 4x optical zoom, a 40MP ultra-wide lens, hyperspectral sensor for better colour reproduction, and an 8MP snapper on both the inner and other displays. Powering it is either a 5,110mAh or 5,200mAh cell, depending on the configuration, that supports 66W wired and 50W wireless charging.
As always, the company does not disclose the chipset that its phones run on, but it is likely one of its in-house processors, with rumours saying that it might be the 6nm Kirin 9100. Connectivity-wise, it supports 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and NFC, while for security, it comes with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.
The Mate X6 is offered in five colours with a starting price of CNY12,999 (~RM7,967) for the base 12GB+256GB configuration. It is unknown whether the phone will be getting a global release, as the company’s two previous foldables, the Mate X5 and Mate XT, were exclusive to China.
