Huawei has recently launched the latest generation of its Mate flagship smartphone series in China. It consists of a number of different models, namely the Mate70, Mate70 Pro, and Mate70 Pro+. All of which currently come with Harmony OS 4.3, but the brand promises that an upcoming software upgrade will introduce the newer, fully in-house HarmonyOS 5.0 system.
But before we start, it should be noted that Huawei did not reveal the chipsets equipped on the new Mate70 series, but promises significant performance boost when compared to its Pura 70 line-up that was launched earlier this year. It is speculated by sources such as Huawei Central that the base Mate70 is equipped with a Kirin 9010 chipset, while the Pro and Pro+ come with the high-end Kirin 9020 instead.
First, we have the Huawei Mate70, which features a 6.7-inch FHD+ OLED screen with 2688 × 1216 pixels resolution, and a refresh rate of 120Hz. It also has a 13MP front camera, IP68/69 protection, an under-screen fingerprint scanner, NFC, and satellite communication features.
Paired with its undisclosed chipset is a memory configuration consisting of 12GB RAM and up to 1TB internal storage. Its battery has a 5,300mAh capacity and supports wired fast charging, 50W wireless and no reverse charging.
The phone’s camera system consists of 50MP f/1.4 – f/4.0 variable aperture + 40MP ultra-wide + 12MP periscope telephoto. In addition, it also supports 5.5x optical zoom (approximate focal length of the lens 24 mm, 13 mm, 125 mm) and 50X digital zoom.
Next up is the Huawei Mate70 Pro, which sports a 6.9-inch FHD+ OLED display with 2832 × 1316 pixels resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. Additionally, it has a 13MP selfie camera, IP68/69 protection, Bluetooth 5.2, an under-screen fingerprint scanner, NFC, and satellite communication features.
Again, there are no details about its chipset, but its memory configuration includes 12GB RAM and up to 1TB internal storage. It has a slightly larger 5,500 mAh battery which supports 100W wired, 80W wireless, and 20W reverse fast charging.
The cameras on this model consist of a 50MP f/1.4 to f/4.0 variable aperture XMAGE system + 40MP ultra-wide + 48MP macro telephoto. It also offers 4X optical zoom and 100X digital, in addition to a 13MP (f/2.4) front camera.
Last but not least is the top-of-the-line Huawei Mate70 Pro+ model, which is equipped with a 6.9-inch curved OLED display with 2832 × 1316 pixels resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. This variant comes with a 13MP selfie camera, IP68/69 waterproofing, USB Type-C/ USB 3.1 Gen 1 port, Wi-Fi 5/Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS support (L1 + L5 Dual Band), under-screen fingerprint scanner, satellite communication features and NFC.
Much like its siblings, paired together with its chipset is 12GB of RAM and up to 1TB of internal storage. The phone has the largest capacity in the series, coming in at 5,700 mAh and supports 100W wired, 80W wireless, and 20W reverse fast charging.
Like the regular Pro, it includes a 50MP main camera with variable aperture between F1.4 to F4.0 and OIS. This is then followed by a 40MP ultra-wide sensor and 48MP OIS for telephoto with macro capabilities. The Pro+’s camera system uses Huawei’s own XMAGE system which also offers 4X optical zoom and 100X digital.
In China, pricing for the vanilla Mate70 starts at CNY5,499 (~RM3,379), the Pro from CNY6,499 (~RM3,993), while the Pro+ from CNY 8,499 (~RM5,223). Huawei also introduced a special edition of the latter, called the Mate70 Pro RS, which features titanium material and is priced from CNY11,999 (~RM7,373). Unfortunately, the company has yet to confirm whether all of these will be seeing an international launch.
