Maxis has introduced the option for Hotlink postpaid and prepaid customers to register or switch to an eSIM. This eliminates the need for a physical SIM card for calls, SMS, and data usage.

Postpaid customers can seamlessly transition from a physical SIM card to an eSIM via the Hotlink app. The process involves accessing the “eSIM Manager” under the “myHotlink” section, verifying identity through a scan of an IC or passport and facial recognition, and then downloading and installing the eSIM. Once installed, the service is ready for use.

In contrast, Hotlink Prepaid customers face different procedures. Existing prepaid users must visit a Maxis store to convert their physical SIM to an eSIM, whereas new prepaid users can register for an eSIM directly through the app, streamlining the onboarding process.

According to its FAQ, Maxis is waiving the usual fee for converting physical SIM cards to eSIMs for both prepaid and postpaid customers as part of a limited-time promotion. However, a RM10 charge applies for transferring a Hotlink Postpaid eSIM to a new device. If users need to switch back to a traditional SIM due to device incompatibility, they can do so at a Maxis store, though standard replacement charges may apply.

Thanks @RonAsraff for the tip!
