Xiaomi has officially unveiled the Redmi A4 in India, its latest entry-level smartphone. The successor to the A3, it comes with several significant upgrades to the display, processor, camera, and battery.
For starters, the A4 sports a bigger 6.88-inch 720p LCD display with a higher refresh rate of 120Hz and a higher peak brightness of 600 nits. Internally, the budget smartphone is the first to run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 chipset, paired with 4GB of RAM and up to 128GB of internal storage. On the connectivity side, it supports 5G, Wi-Fi 5, and Bluetooth 5.3.
For the optics, the Redmi A4 features a notably improved 50MP main camera along with a depth sensor and a 5MP ultra-wide lens. Powering it is a nominally larger 5,160mAh battery with support for faster 18W charging. Additionally, it has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and a 3.5mm audio jack, while for protection, it comes with an IP52 rating for dust and water resistance.
The Redmi A4 is offered at a starting price of INR8,499 (~RM450) for the base trim in purple and black colour options. As for software, it ships with HyperOS based on Android 14 with two years of software updates and four years of security patches. For now, the company has not revealed when it plans to release the phone in other markets.
