The transport ministry, via the Road Transport Department (JPJ), is set to introduce a notification feature in the MyJPJ app to remind users of their Motor Vehicle Licence (LKM) expiry dates. This enhancement aims to address concerns about the lack of reminders following the shift to a digital road tax system, which no longer requires physical road tax stickers.
Its minister, Anthony Loke, announced that the notification function would be rolled out to the MyJPJ app soon, with other improvements being implemented in phases. He noted that these updates would be prioritised and introduced progressively, depending on the availability of allocated funds.
The initiative was revealed during a question-and-answer session during Dewan Rakyat earlier today. This came as a response to a query by Mohd Hasnizan Harun (PN-Hulu Selangor), who had inquired about the ministry’s efforts to ensure vehicle owners are promptly reminded of their road tax obligations under the updated system.
On a related note, Loke earlier today also revealed plans to introduce a fee for printing physical driving licence next year. The transport minister acknowledged that many Malaysians are insisting on using a physical card for their licence, despite the recent digitalisation efforts by the JPJ. However, he did not specify how much it will cost just yet.
