As promised last month, the ASUS ROG Phone 9 series has been officially launched. Also as shown at the time, the new phone will be continuing the more mainstream look of its predecessor, but this also extends to the way the phone is being sold as well.
More specifically, in addition to the base model ASUS ROG Phone 9, there is also a Pro and Pro Edition versions, as did the ROG Phone 8. In the same way, the two Pro variants are mostly the same, barring what it comes with packed in the box.
Not that there’s a lot of difference between the base and Pro model to begin with, as the only real difference is AniMe Vision mini-LED display at the back. And while both models get it this time, naturally the Pro has a lot more if it to play with. For specific numbers, the brand says that the base model has 85 mini LEDs while the Pro gets 648.
But onto the specs of the ASUS ROG Phone 9, we’re looking at a very familiar 6.78-inch Full HD+ LTPO AMOLED display. This time around though, it has a peak refresh rate of 185Hz, but only for a limited number of apps that support it. Then there’s the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, a 5,800 mAh battery with support for 65W wired and 15W Qi-certified wireless charging.
For its cameras, the ASUS ROG Phone 9 series comes with a 50MP main + 13MP wide-angle + 32MP 3x telephoto combo. That being said, the company has shared that the last one uses 2×2 pixel binning, so the resulting shot using this camera will be an 8MP image. The same applies to the front-facing shooter, another 32MP sensor with 2×2 pixel binning.
All that being said though, it remains unclear if this camera setup will be retained when the ASUS ROG Phone 9 make their way to our shores. It is, after all, worth remembering that the base model ROG Phone 8 of the local market didn’t get the upgraded setup that its international counterparts did.
Depending on model, memory and storage configs of the ASUS ROG Phone 9 are between 16GB + 512GB and 24GB + 1TB. As part of its international launch, the company tells us that a Malaysian launch will also be coming soon. If it happens before the year ends, it would mean two generations of the phone launching this year, when the series usually keeps to the one-a-year scheduling.
