Digital Wellbeing on Android was introduced all the way back in 2018, which feels like a whole age ago. Befitting the name, the feature let you set limits to app usage, and when you’ve hit the limit of said apps, it will forcefully close, and you’ll be prevented from launching it for the rest of the day. If you thought that this was a bit too forceful and heavy-handed, the good news is that you can soon let it just remind you of the amount of time spend on an app instead.
Android Authority previously reported that signs of the feature, then called Mindful Nudge, was first seen at the end of last month, hidden in the code of the Digital Wellbeing v1.19.688167517 beta. Now, site contributor and occasional leakster Mishaal Rahman has shared on X screenshots of the feature in action, though notably with a new name of screen time reminders.
Most notable of the screenshots shared though is the one showing the feature in action. While using the aforementioned X app, a notification can be seen showing the amount of time spend on it. Though then it would be up to the user to decide whether to continue or to do something else with their time. You can also tap on the notification itself to either change its settings, or to turn off reminders for the app entirely.
According to Mishaal’s post, it looks like the rollout is a gradual one, so not every Android user is getting access immediately. Though considering the fact that it can simply be dismissed, it remains to be seen if it’s a meaningful enough change when it does become available to the general user base.
