Earlier in the week, we saw the Google Gemini standalone app, which gave direct access to Gemini Live, making an appearance in the Apple App Store in the Philippines. It didn’t take long before the app was also made available in Malaysia, as we were able to download and make use of the app as well.
Prior to that, Google first mentioned widening the rollout of Gemini Live back in September. Probably unsurprisingly, Android devices were the first to get access, but even then, it wasn’t until earlier last month that we in Malaysia got access to it.
For what it’s worth though, at the time, language selection for Gemini Live was very limited. You could effectively only use English, and the US version of the language at that, if you wanted the chatbot to have different voice types. This has since changed, giving at least English UK chatbots additional possibilities in the voice they use to respond to you.
If you’re an iOS user and are interested in giving the Gemini Live chatbot a go for yourself you can now download the Google Gemini app from the Apple App Store. Here’s a direct link to its page on said store, if you need it.
