Following the launch of the BYD M6 last month, the Chinese EV brands has another electric car to launch today. It’s the Sealion 7, which should be no surprise as the company already announced the the launch last week. But today, the company says that Malaysia is the first country in the region to get the car.
It should also be familiar to fans of the brand to know that the BYD Sealion 7 is being introduced in two variants, called Premium and Performance. That being said, beyond the way they look and their shared battery capacity rated at 82.5 kWh, the two spec sheets of the Sealion 7 don’t have much in common with each other.
Starting with the Premium model of the BYD Sealion 7, the spec sheet comes with a century sprint time of 6.7 seconds, a NEDC range rating of 567km, a rear-wheel drivetrain with maximum power output of 230 kW and 380 Nm or max torque. The car weighs in at 2,635kg.
As for the Performance model BYD Sealion 7, last week’s teaser has revealed just about everything you need to know. But to go over the list again, it’s a 0 – 100 km/h time of 4.5 seconds, a NEDC range of 542km, all-wheel drive with 390 kW of power and 690 Nm of torque. This car is also slightly heavier, weighing 2,750 kg.
For features outside of performance, the BYD Sealion 7 has a total of nine airbags, and uses a 360-degree camera setup for better visibility. It also gets athe suite of driver-assistance befitting its price, like adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning and blind spot detection. On the infotainment side of things, there’s a 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen, support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, with a 12-speaker setup driving the sound.
With all that out of the way, the BYD Sealion 7 in its Premium trim has a price tag of RM183,800, while the Performance model will set you back RM199,800. Both come in Cosmos Black, Aurora White, Atlantis Grey and Shark Grey colourways. The company is also offering potential customers who book one for themselves before 17 November a complimentary home charger and RM800 in charging credits, but the car needs to be registered before the year ends in order to make full use of this promo.
