Users of Rapid KL’s My50 pass will no longer need to use their MyKad next year. This was revealed by transport minister Anthony Loke, who said that alternative payment options will be introduced.
With the aim to revolutionise the digital system of the country’s public transport, Rapid KL will offer the use of the Touch ‘n Go card as well as using a QR code on your smartphone to utilise the pass. The minister added that the reason for this change is because users feel that having to use their MyKad for My50 is inconvenient.
He did not specify a timeline for when this will be implemented, but last month, he announced that the pass will be integrated into TnG eWallet so that users can renew it digitally — this is expected to be completed by the end of the year. Currently, commuters can only renew the pass at LRT, MRT, monorail, and BRT counters, as well as select bus hubs. It can be purchased either through the TnG balance in your MyKad or by using cash, with the latter option saddled with a RM0.50 reload fee.
Alongside this announcement, Rapid KL has also introduced a new short-term pass called MyTourist Pass. It offers all the perks of the MyCity pass as well as discounts at its shopping, dining, and entertainment partners.
