Previously, we saw reports claiming that Apple was pausing work on the Apple Vision Pro 2 in order to focus on the more affordable version of the MR headset. In recent times, it looks like the schedules have been reversed, with reports of the affordable model getting delayed, and the true sequel now slated for between late next year, and early 2026.
Supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has claimed that the more affordable Apple MR headset has been delayed to beyond 2027. He adds that the decision has been made for quite awhile, claiming that just lowering the price is no guarantee that the headset will end up becoming mainstream. Another example Kuo cites to make the point is with the bitten fruit brand’s HomePods.
As I understand it, production of the cheaper Vision Pro has been delayed beyond 2027 for a while now. This means Apple's only new head-mounted display device in 2025 will be the Vision Pro with an upgraded M5 processor.
I think what really drove Apple to delay the cheaper…

On the flip side, 9to5Mac cites Mark Gurman of Bloomberg as saying that the Apple Vision Pro 2 is now on track for release between fall 2025 and spring 2026. This is via the weekly Power On newsletter, though in the portion that only paid subscribers can see. It is also noted to be looking mostly similar to the first generation, so all of its improvements are internal. Prior reports note that it would be armed with the M5 chip, which would be the latest and greatest by that time.
Gurman’s claim echoes Kuo’s, though with a more specific window. Presumably, said window will also apply to new Apple hardware such as Macs to also be sporting the new chip, though it remains to be seen if that is indeed the case. It also remains to be seen if a more updated chip will make the pricey headset more popular.
