In September, Tecno introduced the Phantom V Fold2 and the Phantom V Flip2, its second generation of foldable smartphones. The lineup made its debut in Africa and at the time, the brand confirmed that it would soon launch the new foldables in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America.
Given that the company mentioned Southeast Asia, it was initially assumed that the series would also make its way to Malaysia, similar to its predecessors. However, Tecno has recently confirmed in the comments section on its Malaysian Facebook page that the new Phantom series won’t be coming to Malaysia, in response to a user asking for a local release date of the lineup.
As a refresher, the Phantom V Fold2 shares many similarities with the original V Fold, but gets a lighter and thinner design along with a bigger battery. It sports a 7.85-inch 120Hz LTPO AMOLED inner display and a 6.42-inch 120Hz LTPO AMOLED cover screen. Inside, it runs on the same MediaTek Dimensity 9000 Plus chipset.
For imaging, it has a 50MP main camera with OIS, a 50MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom, a 50MP ultra-wide lens, and two 32MP front cameras for both the inner and outer displays. It is powered by a 5,750mAh battery with support for 70W wired and 15W wireless charging.
On the other hand, the Phantom V Flip2 carries a 6.9-inch 120Hz LTPO AMOLED display when unfolded, while its cover screen features a bigger 3.64-inch AMOLED panel. Under the hood, it runs on a MediaTek Dimensity 8020 chipset.
Optics-wise, it gets a 50MP primary sensor with OIS, a 50MP ultra-wide lens, and a 32MP selfie shooter. Backing the clamshell phone is an improved 4,720mAh cell with support for 70W charging.
