Waze users around the globe, including those right here in Malaysia are experiencing a strange glitch with the satellite navigation app. These issues include language settings being automatically changed mainly to Hebrew, Turkish or Russian, voice direction language, light/dark mode flip flopping as well as changes to the mood and vehicle icons.

At time of writing, to our knowledge, the issues seems to only affect logged in users, which would point to an issue with custom user settings being incorrectly loaded or a more serious issue with user credentials. Users have been sharing screenshots of their Waze app with these alternative languages across X and other social media platforms.
Waze, formerly FreeMap Israel, is a subsidiary company of Google that provides satellite navigation software on smartphones and other computers that support the Global Positioning System (GPS) Network. In addition to turn-by-turn navigation, it incorporates user-submitted travel times and route details while downloading location-dependent information over a cellular network. Waze describes its application as a community-driven initiative that is free to download and use.
