Back in June, Valve announced the beta for its own Steam Game Recording, a feature you use to record gameplay built into the launcher itself. Now, the feature is live for all users to record their own gameplay or share highlights. Well, all users on PC, Mac and the Deck, anyway.
The feature will be added via an automatic update that has started rolling out. By default, the shortcut to start recording is Ctrl + F11, and automatic recording is off by default, both of which you can change in the settings menu.
As mentioned before, the Game Recording feature won’t interfere with other similar tools, like Nvidia Shadowplay. You can also use it with non-Steam games that allow the platform’s overlay to run over it.
Beyond just adding in Game Recording though, the update is also adding another nail into its Windows 7 and 8 support coffin. In the announcement post, Valve says that the new update will not roll out automatically for users still running those operating systems, as well as macOS10.13 or 10.14.
There’s also a list of other additions and fixes, as you’d expect from an update. For the exhaustive list, you can read them for yourself via the link below.
