Samsung Malaysia has recently added the Galaxy A16 5G on its official website. It is a new entry-level smartphone that was initially introduced for select markets last month, and will soon be arriving to the local market. After reaching out to the brand, a local representative confirmed with us that the device will be in stores starting 15 November onwards, but its pricing is still kept under wraps for now.
The Galaxy A16 5G features the familiar current-gen Galaxy A design language. More specifically, on its back is a vertically arranged triple camera setup, while a volume rocker and the fingerprint sensor + lock button combo is situated on a slightly protruding part of its surrounding frame. Being an entry-level device, the front-facing camera is housed within a waterdrop notch instead of a cutout on its display.
Speaking of which, the phone comes with a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED screen with 1080 x 2340 px resolution, 90Hz refresh rate, and 800 nits brightness. It also comes with a loudspeaker, IP54 water and dust resistance, dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC capability, and Android 14 via One UI 6.1 out of the box. According to the official website, Samsung will be offering up to six generations of OS upgrades and six years of security maintenance for the device.
Under its hood is an undisclosed octa-core chipset, though sources such as GSMArena believes that it may either be an Exynos 1330 or a MediaTek Dimensity 6300. Paired together with it is 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, while a microSD card slot is available for expansion. Meanwhile, its battery has a capacity of 5,000mAh, and fast charging via USB-C is rated at 25W.
The triple camera setup mentioned earlier consists of a 50MP primary, a 5MP ultra-wide, and a 2MP macro. Flipping over to the front, housed within the waterdrop notch on the display is a 13MP sensor.
For reference, since its local pricing is not official just yet, the new Samsung Galaxy A16 5G is retailing at EUR249 (~RM1,174) in France, while its colourways include Light Green, Blue Black, and Gold. It is worth noting that a local distributor has already listed the entry-level device on pre-order, priced at RM899. However, Samsung Malaysia did not confirm whether the price is actually accurate.
