Remember the Sound Clock: Alarmo, the alarm clock made by Nintendo? Well, in true “let’s get Doom running on random devices” spirit, someone managed to do just that with the device.
A modder and YouTuber by the name GaryOderNichts recently posted their efforts on their channel, showing an Alarmo running Doom perfectly on-screen. The controls, however, obviously require some getting used to; the alarm button and its rotating bezel control navigation and viewing angles, while the two buttons on the side serve as the interaction and fire buttons.
GaryOderNichts points out that the modding process isn’t without its flaws. Firstly, there’s no audio support for the game on Alarmo. Second, there’s supposedly an issue with memory size, an issue they solved by compressing and uncompressing the game on external memory on boot.
Regardless of their feat, one thing is clear: the Alarmo is the latest on a growing list of devices and platforms that modders that managed to run Doom on. Time and time again, these individuals have managed to get the game running on Twitter, on the display of a self-driving, robotic lawnmower, a Playdate, an old Game & Watch, and an electronic pregnancy test kit, among others.
