HONOR has officially launched the X9c and the X7c in Malaysia, its newest series of durability-focused smartphones. While the former shares many similarities with its predecessor, it offers increased toughness, a bigger battery, faster charging, and a nominally upgraded camera.
The X9c sports a 6.78-inch 1.5K curved OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 4,000 nits for HDR content, but the company did not disclose the global brightness. Under the hood, it runs on the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chipset as the X9b, along with 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage. Additionally, it has an under-display fingerprint scanner and supports 5G, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.1, and NFC.
Protection-wise, the brand claims that the phone can now survive drops of up to 2 metres, up from 1.6 metres. The dust and water protection rating has also been enhanced from IP53 to IP65M, meaning that it should be able to withstand being submerged in water up to 25cm for five minutes. On the audio side, the single speaker from last year has been upgraded to dual stereo speakers.
The camera setup didn’t change much except for the 108MP main sensor gaining OIS, while the 5MP ultra-wide lens and the 16MP front shooter remains the same. However, the pill-shaped front cutout brings support for the brand’s Magic Capsule feature. The most impressive change, however, is in the battery department, with the X9c now backed by a massive 6,600mAh cell with support for 66W charging.
On the other hand, the lower-end X7c sports a 6.77-inch LCD display with a lower 720p resolution compared to the X7b, but gets a higher 120Hz refresh rate. Internally, the entry-level device is fitted with a Snapdragon 685 processor paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The more affordable counterpart also advertises drop resistance but only gets an IP64 rating for dust and water resistance.
For photography, it boasts a 108MP primary snapper alongside a depth sensor and an 8MP selfie camera. Powering the phone is a 6,000mAh battery with support for 35W charging. Moreover, it comes with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and supports 4G, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, and NFC.
The X9c is offered in two configurations and starts from RM1,499 for the 12GB+256GB variant, while the 12GB+512GB variant retails at RM1,699. Meanwhile, the X7c gets a price tag of RM699. The phones will be available from 15 November and are packaged together with a 365-day back and crack replacement, while the X9c also gets 180-day one-to-one replacement and three-year battery assurance policies.
