The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has posted on its social media channels fake messages that’s been making the rounds. In light of this, the commission has decried them as fake, and is reminding the public to remain vigilant with such claims.
Said fake messages claim to be invitations to a meeting on the implementation of the 5G towe project and the Jendela 2 project in Sabah. Despite these being related to Sabah, these meetings were claimed to be happening today in a hotel in Kuala Lumpur instead.
In response to the circulation of these messages, the MCMC also said that it had filed a police report. The commission says that these messages are an attempt to deceive the public. With that, the MCMC also says that the general public should head over to its official website, as well as official social media channels for such announcements in the future.
Very recently, Deputy Comms Minister Teo Nie Ching made announcements regarding Phase 2 of Jendela, as well as internet coverage in Sarawak. Said announcements involved the potential use of low-earth-orbit satellites, though it’s worth noting that the minister said that decisions on such matters are expected next year.
