Apple has just released iOS 18.2 beta 2 for developers, which brings a couple of new updates to iPhone 16 users as well as models that are compatible with Apple Intelligence features. According to 9to5Mac, this firmware update introduces the much useful but currently missing focus and exposure lock feature for Camera Control, and also the highly anticipated ChatGPT integration.
The former, as implied by its function, allows users to focus and lock exposure onto a subject when snapping photos using the iPhone’s camera app. This is achieved by simply soft pressing and holding Camera Control, akin to how it is usually done on traditional digital cameras. However, this new ability won’t be immediately available, as you are required to enable it first within the Camera app’s settings.
Additionally, the iOS 18.2 beta 2 finally brings ChatGPT integration to Siri and Apple’s AI writing tools. Users can enable OpenAI’s chatbot via the Settings app, under the Apple Intelligence & Siri menu. 9to5Mac adds the option to upgrade to ChatGPT’s Plus subscription is also located here in case you wish to access the additional features not offered by the free version.
As previously announced by Apple, the free version of ChatGPT integration on Apple Intelligence supported iPhone models does not require an OpenAI account, though signing in provides access to additional functionality. Upgrading to a paid Plus account, on the other hand, offers further benefits such as increased usage limits, advanced models, as well as new capabilities like real-time voice conversations and expanded support for photos, file uploads, and web browsing.
Other notable additions in the iOS 18.2 beta 2 build includes a new Create Image tool that uses Image Playground to generate images through the Notes app, and the ability to share the location of a lost item to another person via Find My, among other updates. According to Apple, the public version of this firmware is expected to be released in December this year.
