Local telco U Mobile has been selected by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) as the company that will implement the nation’s second 5G network.
The company, which boasts Vincent Tan as its chairman, was given the privilege after what MCMC said were “detailed deliberations on the technical and commercial aspects” over the second 5G Network.
“MCMC will continue to oversee the progress of the implementation of Malaysia’s second 5G network to ensure total compliance with all regulatory requirements as provided for in the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998,” MCMC said.
Back in August, the four major mobile network operators (MNOs) in the country – Maxis, CelcomDigi, TM, and U Mobile – submitted their tenders to the government, to bid on who would get the job of laying the groundwork for Malaysia’s second wholesale 5G network. Fahmi Fadzil, Communications Minister, then said that a decision would then be made based on the tenders of each telco.
