CD Projekt Red (CDPR) just announced that its critically acclaimed Cyberpunk 2077 video game will be making its way towards the Apple Mac. That includes the main game and its expansion, Phantom Liberty, and more importantly, all the visual trimmings that is ray-tracing and the more hardware intensive path-tracing.
CDPR says that Cyberpunk 2077 will be hitting Apple Silicon “early next year” but falls short of providing an actual date. This is clearly the company trying to play things safe, which is understandable, given the kerfuffle of the base game’s initial launch. The game will be available for Mac systems via Mac App Store, GOG.com, Steam, and Epic Game Store.
Apple is slowly but surely growing its base of AAA titles for its portfolio, and it’s easy to see why. The fruit company is eager to show off the power of its Metal ray-tracing technology. Formally introduced back in 2014, the API is now capable of running ray-tracing with a select number of games.
Cyberpunk 2077 isn’t the only AAA title on the list. As a quick recap, many game studios have released their titles on the Mac platform. This includes Resident Evil 4 Remake, Death Stranding, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Deus Ex Mankind Divided, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and Baldur’s Gate 3.
