The Sharp Aquos R9 Pro has just been announced in its home market of Japan as quite the impressive camera phone. While the series rarely makes an official appearance on our shores, the brand indicates that it will be available in two of our neighbours, making acquiring it closer within the realms of possibility.
But going over what the phone has to offer, the Sharp Aquos R9 Pro sports a 6.7-inch QHD+ OLED screen with a variable refresh rate of up to 240Hz. There’s also a fingerprint sensor underneath. Inside, it packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset which, you could argue, is a tad dated by this point. That being said, you still get the full 12GB memory and 512GB complement. The battery is rated at a pretty standard 5,000mAh, though no charging speed was noted.
But most important on the Sharp Aquos R9 Pro is the triple camera setup in the rear. All of them are noted to be 50.3MP shooters. The main unit has a f/1.8 lens with OIS plus a 1/0.98-inch sensor, while the wide-angle and 2.8x telephoto shooters come with f/2.2 and f/2.6 lenses respectively. The setup even gets a vapour chamber cooling system. In front is also a 50.3MP camera, with a f/2.2 lens. Oh, and there’s also a Sony Xperia-esque physical shutter button.
Other items on the Sharp Aquos R9 Pro spec sheet include Bluetooth 5.4, Android 14, WiFi 7 and an IP68 rating. While the official release doesn’t mention a price, GSMArena claims that it has an expected price of JPY190,000 (~RM5,444). What the official release does mention, on the other hand, is its early December release window in Japan, “followed by sequential release as a global model in Taiwan, Indonesia, and Singapore”. There’s also the note that specs may change when the phone lands in markets outside of its home.
