OPPO has formed a strategic partnership with automaker BYD, according to reports from sources including South China Morning Post (SCMP) and Gasgoo. It is said that this collaboration aims to develop technologies that provide seamless connectivity between the former’s smartphones and the latter’s cars.
Their first product, the “Phone-Car Connectivity” system, will be available through an over-the-air (OTA) update for BYD’s DENZA Z9 GT model and OPPO’s upcoming Find X8 flagship smartphone series. This offers a range of features, including app mirroring, voice commands, privacy modes, and seamless navigation transfers between the phone and car.
In addition, the new system also introduces Fusion Desktop 3.0, which offers the first cross-brand in-car mirroring mode. This feature allows the DENZA Z9 GT to utilise all smartphone apps, providing flexibility for users. It is said to also include health monitoring, digital car keys, and vehicle management services. Though not mentioned specifically, it is quite likely that this collaboration will be exclusive to China for now.
The OPPO Find X8 series, launching globally on October 24th, features a MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chip and dual periscope cameras, among other highlights. Meanwhile, the BYD Denza Z9 GT boasts three independent electric motors, rear-wheel steering, and advanced CTB battery-body integration technology, alongside optional laser radar packages.
