Renders of the Google Pixel 9a leaked a couple of weeks ago, showing what the phone will look like. Now, it looks like details of its cameras have also started appearing online, with the main camera being of particular interest, as it can be seen as both an upgrade and a downgrade simultaneously.
Android Headlines reports that the Google Pixel 9a is getting a 48MP main camera, with a 13MP wide-angle shooter that is shared with the front-facing unit. On one hand, the 48MP main camera is a downgrade in terms of sheer pixel count. But on the other, the sensor itself is larger than before, which should mean better photos despite the lower pixel count. The report also speculates that it’s the same camera as found in the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
Also mentioned in the report is the inclusion of the Add Me feature that was announced alongside the primary Pixel 9 lineup. In case you missed it, this is the feature that lets you take the same photo twice, with different people in it, then merge the two for the complete group shot.
Finally, the report mentions a possible release date of the Google Pixel 9a, being mid March of 2025. If this is accurate, it would mean that the phone’s debut is a little ahead of the usual Google I/O window. Of course, there’s also the matter of if we’re getting it at around the same time.
