Tesla Malaysia recently put up a job listing on its career page, looking for an engineer who specialises in battery cell supplier industrialisation. The opening will see the candidate based in Malaysia, and more specifically, in the area of Perai in Penang. The position is full-time and, as per the description, will require the individual to “develop, qualify, and oversee battery cell manufacturing process end to end.”

- Leads FAs and implement CAs for battery cell inline, OQC, performance and next customer IQC failures

- Responsible for development & implementation of IQC, IPQC and OQC at supplier sites to ensure incoming product at Tesla is defect free.
- Accountable for supplier audits to ensure their ability to meet part performance, delivery, and reliability expectations.

It is likely the position is one of possibly several upcoming positions that will gradually open up, as part of Tesla’s US$13.5 million (~RM58.1 million) investment into Malaysia. In part, the job opening is likely part of the company’s Global Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) AP Scheme that is aimed at bolstering local EV infrastructure.
