Apple announced the iPad mini 7 last week, noting that it will have the hardware required to run Apple Intelligence. Part of this is due to it having the A17 Pro chip, but the other would be down to it having more RAM than before. Now, there is seemingly confirmation of this according to a listing on Geekbench.
The listing itself identifies the tablet as the iPad16,2, with single- and multi-core scores of 2,817 and 6,982. GSMArena reports that despite having the same chip as the iPhone 15 Pro line, the one used in the iPad mini 7 are binned versions, running with one GPU core less than those used in the phones. That being said, the report also notes that despite this difference, the scores it got are about in line with the scores of the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, the only other device to use the A 17 Pro.
But perhaps more importantly, said listing shows that the iPad mini 7 has 8GB of RAM. This has been previously speculated to be the minimum amount of memory needed to run Apple Intelligence. Whether this is actually the case remains unconfirmed, and it seems unlikely that the bitten fruit brand would do so in an official capacity.
Apple Intelligence is not yet available, but it should arrive when iPadOS 18.1 rolls around. As to when that will happen, there are reports that claim that this will coincide with the iPad mini 7’s availability in international markets, which starts on 23 October. It remains to be seen if this also applies to the local market. For what it’s worth, it does have a starting price of RM2,199.
