GXBank has recently rolled out an updated version of its mobile app, following a six-hour maintenance on 17 October 2024. Despite this, many customers have taken to social media to report being unable to access the app after installing the latest version.
The help page on GXBank’s website now states that, as of 16 October 2024, the app no longer supports devices running Android versions below 12 or iOS versions below 15. Customers are advised to update their firmware to the latest version in order to continue using the digital bank’s services. However, this advice is useful only for those with devices capable of upgrading to these versions, leaving some customers out of luck.
The newly imposed limitation has caused backlash from customers who own older smartphones and are now unable to log in to their accounts. Some are even urging the bank to revert to the previous app version.
After reaching out for comment regarding the matter, GXBank has provided us with the following statement:
“As a regulated digital bank, we must ensure the highest levels of security and performance for our users. To continue providing a safe and secure banking experience, our latest GXBank app update requires Android version 12 or iOS 15 and higher. We recommend customers upgrade their operating systems to meet this requirement. If the device is unable to support the update, we regret to inform you that a new device will be necessary to continue using our app. Our goal is to protect your data and account security, and we believe this is a crucial step towards achieving that.”
This solution, however, isn’t the most affordable. Even for those able to acquire a newer smartphone or tablet, there is an additional step: according to GXBank, users must contact customer support to unbind their account from the original device. There is also a mandatory 12-hour cooling-off period for new devices after the request is processed.
