Among other announcement during the Budget 2025 tabling, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim also informed the nation that the MyDigital ID app would serve as the one-stop, go-to centralised hub for all government agencies, including JPJ, LHDN, and PADU.
The announcement comes as a little bit of a surprise, given the low-key kerfuffle that surrounded it earlier this month. First announced a year ago, the MyJPJ app announced that in order for folks to use it, a MyDigital ID account would be mandatory, running contrary to its earlier statement that it would be optional.
Exactly one day later, Anthony Loke, Minister of Transportation, ordered the JPJ to remove the mandatory requirement, as no decision on the matter had been made at the time. In his words, “We support integration efforts between MyDigital ID and MyJPJ, but it has to be done seamlessly.”
PADU’s presence in the centralisation to MyDigital ID does raise both questions and concerns, especially since there hasn’t exactly been any clear directive beyond using the data of 10.8 million registered users to implement what it describes as subsidy restructuring. For that matter, there are still some reservations in the minds of many over the safety of said information – back in February, a hacker group called R00TK1T claimed to have breached the government body’s database.
Rafizi Ramli, the Minister of Economy, denied any such breach had occurred, but the hacker group also claimed that it had spoken to a government representative behind closed doors via message on its Telegram channel.
