Emteq Labs introduced its first emotion-sensing smart glasses called Sense. Compared to the standard smart eyewear, these glasses sets themselves part by being equipped with Emteq’s patented OCO sensors, providing advanced three-dimensional mapping of facial skin movements, as well as being able to capture intricate emotional and physical responses.
It features a nine-axis inertial measurement unit and an altimeter. It also has a downward-facing camera designed to record food consumption, while artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms analyse the data collected. The information is then relayed to a companion app and cloud platform, allowing users to track various metrics related to their emotional and physical states.
The potential applications of Sense glasses are twofold: mental health monitoring and dietary management. The technology can differentiate between depressed and non-depressed individuals, providing insights for mental health support. Additionally, the glasses can monitor chewing patterns and food intake to help users manage their dietary habits and avoid overeating.
Emteq claims that users will have full control over their data and can choose whether to share it with healthcare professionals or researchers. Since the glasses can analyse real-time emotional responses, they would be considered useful in consumer research and augmented reality applications.
There’s no official release date yet, but as competition rises with major players like Meta and Apple entering the smart glasses market, the company is also preparing to release a development kit in December. It is possible that more features will be incorporated overtime.
