Amazon has recently launched four new Kindle e-readers, with the most notable being the Colorsoft Signature Edition model, which is its first device to feature a colour e-ink display. This is followed by the next-gen Kindle Scribe and Kindle Paperwhite, as well as the 2024 Kindle.
Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition features a new light guide that’s equipped with nitride LEDs, promising paper-like colours with high contrast. The device is designed to enhance the reading experience for users who enjoy reading comics, viewing photos, or highlighting text in different colours. Impressively, Amazon says the Colorsoft is capable of lasting up to eight weeks on a single charge, supports wireless charging, and is also waterproof. This model only comes with 32GB of internal storage.
Next up is the second-generation Kindle Scribe, which boasts a 10.2-inch screen with a resolution of 300ppi and new AI-driven functionalities such as the ability to summarise text into bullet points and convert handwritten notes into text. Notably, the device also features an Active Canvas, allowing users to retain notes even when the layout or font size is altered. It also comes with up to 64GB of storage, 12-week long battery, and is bundled with Amazon’s Premium Pen stylus.
Meanwhile, the Kindle Paperwhite has also received an update, featuring a 7-inch e-ink display with a new oxide thin-film transistor, which allows for improved contrast for sharper text and 25% faster page turns. The device is waterproof, has either 16GB or 32GB of storage, and is capable of lasting up to 12 weeks on a single charge.
Last but not least is Amazon’s new entry-level Kindle, although nearly identical to the 2022 version, has been upgraded with faster page-turns and 16GB of storage. This model is said to be capable of offering six weeks of battery life.
The Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition is priced at US$280 (~RM1,204), the Kindle Scribe from US$400 (~RM1,720), the Kindle Paperwhite from US$160 (~RM688), and the 2024 Kindle at US$110 (~RM473). No word on whether Amazon plans to bring any of these models to Malaysia at this time.
