At long last, Proton has finally added Apple CarPlay support, which will be available via an over-the-air (OTA) update. However, there is a catch – one that might not sit well with a lot of Proton owners, in fact. The rollout, as revealed by the local automaker on Facebook, is only offered to the recently launched 2025 X70 SUV.
“Get ready for an electrifying upgrade,” Proton’s Facebook post reads. “Apple CarPlay has arrived in the 2025 PROTON X70, and we can’t contain our excitement!”
Included in the announcement is a video guide on how to install Apple CarPlay support on the SUV. The bulk of it is basically Proton advising 2025 X70 owners to keep their vehicle running while installing the update, as well as ensuring that the correct version (SW3RBA10925H1141) is downloaded.
Upon completion, users can enjoy the new feature by pairing a compatible iPhone via USB or Bluetooth connection. Once connected, users can launch Apple CarPlay by tapping its icon that’s newly added to the car’s infotainment interface.
Now that the much requested feature is now available, you’re definitely wondering whether Proton’s existing car models – namely the S70, X50, pre-facelift X70, and X90 – will eventually get it as well? Unfortunately, the local automaker previously confirmed that Apple CarPlay (and Android Auto) will only be available on new model launches, so no dice.
