Last month, AirAsia revealed a collaboration with Japanese video game company Sega and its subsidiary Atlus. The partnership sees select planes being adorned with liveries featuring characters from Sonic the Hedgehog as well as Persona 5.
One aircraft will feature Sonic the Hedgehog, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, and Amy Rose, while another will showcase Persona 5 characters Joker and Morgana. You can find Sonic and friends on AirAsia X’s Airbus A330 with tail number 9M-XXU and flight code D7, while the Persona livery adorns AirAsia Malaysia’s Airbus A320 aircraft with tail number 9M-AFF and flight code AK.
These two planes will fly routes from Kuala Lumpur across Southeast Asia and Asia Pacific, including Bangkok, Tokyo, Seoul, Taipei, Shanghai, and Sydney, as well as from Osaka to Taipei . Rudy Khaw, CEO of AirAsia brand co., remarked that “as a brand that carries the pride of Asean, we are thrilled to showcase the region’s vibrant spirit and creativity through this partnership.”
To celebrate the partnership, the airline is offering Sonic’s Golden Ring Cakes, which are mango and lemon-flavored cakes shaped like Sonic’s iconic golden rings. Priced at RM13, it comes in a combo along with a drink a Sonic-themed sticker and can be pre-booked on all AK and D7 flights.
Additionally, the carrier will be launching even more merchandise from the two franchises in the first quarter of 2025. It will include keychains and model airplanes.
