Spotify has announced a new feature called Offline Backup, which keeps you connected to your music even without an internet connection. Users of the streaming platform might already be familiar with the download button for offline listening, but this feature is an extension of that which happens automatically.
Currently, users have to manually choose which tracks, albums, or podcasts to download for offline listening, but Offline Backup does it without any prompts. How it works is that whenever the app detects that you have gone offline, a playlist will appear automatically in the Home feed.
The feature uses tracks that are already stored on your phone for regular listening (cache), so you will need to make sure to have listened to at least five songs recently. Moreover, you need to enable Offline Backup under the app’s Data Saving settings. The company claims that the offline playlist will be regularly updated with new music as you continue to stream.
Offline Backup was tested by users last year and is now officially rolling out globally. It will be available through the latest update on both iOS and Android, but will be exclusive to Premium users.
