Last month, it was reported that streaming platform Max would finally be coming to Malaysia. Now, the local launch is more imminent than ever with the company’s Malaysian website going live and confirming its upcoming arrival.
While there aren’t many details yet, the landing page for the Malaysian site states that the service is coming soon and to “Please watch this space for more details”. This is paired with a screencap from the popular animated show Rick & Morty, which was notably removed from rival Netflix in most regions, including Malaysia.
James Gibbons, president of APAC for Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD), earlier announced that Max would be launching in five Southeast Asian markets, as well as Taiwan and Hong Kong, by the end of 2024. He did not specify a launch date, but remarked that the countries will see the launch of the streaming service in the coming weeks and months.
When it does arrive, Max, which was initially introduced as HBO Max before being renamed, will be replacing HBO Go. The upcoming platform is expected to offer a wider catalogue than Go along with 4K streaming, whereas the latter is capped at 1080p.
